Google Sheets with migraine: dark theme, zoom and less glare

Updated 2026-11-02

Quick answerGoogle Sheets has a dark theme in its Android and iPhone apps (Menu, Settings, Choose theme, Dark), but not on the web. A bright white grid is a lot of light and fine lines, so on a computer zoom in, dim the page relative to the room and consider a dark filter.

Dark theme in the Sheets app

  1. Open Google Sheets on your phone or tablet.
  2. Tap Menu, then Settings.
  3. Tap Choose theme and select Dark.

On a computer

  1. Zoom with Ctrl/Cmd and + to make cells and text larger.
  2. Turn on Migraine Mode for dimming and smart dark mode on the grid.

Good to know

  • Dense grids of thin lines are a striped pattern; patterns with high contrast are more uncomfortable for people with migraine (Wilkins 1984).
  • Migraine Mode adds what the site lacks: dimming, a soft-green tint, smart dark mode, frozen GIFs and blocked autoplay, all with one switch.

FAQ
