Migraine Mode vs Windows Night light

Updated 2026-11-02

Quick answerWindows Night light, in Settings, System, Display, shifts the screen to warmer colors with an adjustable strength and schedule. It affects the whole screen. Migraine Mode only changes websites in Chrome, but it adds dimming, smart dark mode and stops GIFs and autoplay. Night light changes color, not brightness.

Night light

  • Built into Windows 10 and 11.
  • Strength slider and schedule.

Migraine Mode

  • Chrome only.
  • Dimming matched to room light, soft-green tint, dark mode, still pages.

Evidence

  • Room-matched brightness: Main 2000, Fani 2026.
  • Very warm screens were not better (Xie 2024).

FAQ

Not a medical device and not medical advice. Migraine Mode is a screen-comfort tool: it does not diagnose, treat, cure or prevent migraine or any other condition, and it does not replace a doctor. Its settings are based on studies of light, colour, flicker, patterns and motion; the extension itself has not been clinically tested. When to see a doctor.
